FAQ

Dedicated to Protecting and Promoting the sport of Crappie fishing in Arizona, the Arizona Crappie Association (AZCA) membership consists of people from all walks of life from all over the state. We are a group of everyday people that have one thing in common: Crappie fishing. Together we share tips and techniques with each other to better our understanding and success at fishing for that ever-elusive Crappie. AZCA members meet on Saturday of every month (see events page) at various lakes for a day of Crappie fishing followed by the club’s monthly meeting. The AZCA holds two big events every year. The first event is Spring Crappie Fest held every April and the second event is The Bob Hirsch Crappie Classic held every October and is in remembrance of the late Bob Hirsch, one of Arizona’s great outdoorsmen and an outdoor writer. Both of these events consist of a group campout, potluck dinner, a Crappie fishing tournament, and is always a fun weekend. The AZCA also helps out with Arizona Game and Fish Department volunteer activities like Christmas tree drops and crappie stockings at local lakes. Many AZCA members enjoy fishing the National Crappie League Arizona Division and Let’s Talk Fishin Crappie Division tournaments, and the AZCA supports both tournament trails, providing information about their events and results.

Arizona Crappie Association (AZCA) membership is a simple two-step process. First, the prospective member will attend a monthly club meeting where he/she will introduce themselves to the group and express interest in joining. Second, the prospective member will then be voted upon by current AZCA members, requiring 85% vote affirmation. Once voted in, the prospect will be required to fill out a membership application and pay the required annual dues. Once completed, access to the AZCA Facebook members-only group and AZCrappie Forum (forum.azcrappie.com) members-only section used for internal discussions and planning will be granted. AZCA membership dues are $40 annually or $65 for husband/wife couples for the April to April season. Youth membership (minor children under 18 years of age) are free. After October 1st, AZCA membership dues are $25 or $40 for husband/wife couples.

Arizona Crappie Association (AZCA) memberships and the AZCA season runs from April to April, coinciding with the Spring Crappie Fest event.

Arizona Crappie Association (AZCA) members have voting opportunities at events and get 2-nights of camping free for both the Spring Crappie Fest and Bob Hirsch Crappie Classic. AZCA members may also be part of the Facebook AZCA members-only group and the AZCrappie Forum (forum.azcrappie.com) members-only section often used for internal group discussion and planning.

Check the events page, as it is updated frequently as events are scheduled. You can even download the event schedule into your own calendar app. Major events will also be posted on the Arizona Crappie Association Facebook page, Instagram, the AZCrappie Forum (forum.azcrappie.com), and sent out via the Newsletter. So be sure to like and check this website, follow our social media pages, and subscribe to receive the Newsletter.

The AZCA forum is located at AZCrappie Forum (forum.azcrappie.com). If you don’t have an account there already, you’ll need to create a new one. You should subscribe to receive email notifications of updates to each of the forum threads and bookmark it for easy access.

You can post in public Facebook groups like AZ Crappie Fishing, Crappie fisherman of Arizona, and Crappie.com as these are public Facebook groups where anyone can post. You can also post on Instagram and tag @AZCrappie if you’d like. You can also post fishing reports or discuss anything crappie fishing related in the AZCrappie Forum (forum.azcrappie.com).

Your best bet would be to come to one of our monthly meetings (see events page) and meet the group in person. However, we understand that may not always be possible so online, Arizona Crappie Association (AZCA) members and non-members can post in the AZCrappie Forum (forum.azcrappie.com) or if you are a paid-member, then you can also post in the Facebook AZCA members-only group (invite-only).

You can view the Arizona Crappie Association board officers on the About Us page.

The Arizona Crappie Association (AZCA) was created under bylaws written by the original founder and members in 2007. As the AZCA evolved, the bylaws were amended over time and the latest revision can be viewed at here. The association is run by its members, who vote on when/where the monthly meetings are held as well as the bigger annual events like the Spring Crappie Fest and Bob Hirsch Crappie Classic. The board is made up of officers, which you can view at here.

Current paid-members of the AZCA can be found on the Member’s Directory.
