Thank You for your interest in The Arizona Crappie Association (AZCA). Founded in March 2007, the AZCA was originally formed as a chapter of the American Crappie Association. In April 2008, the AZCA split from the American Crappie Association and became an independent club being the first Crappie fishing club in Arizona.
At the Arizona Crappie Association, our mission is to cultivate a vibrant community of crappie fishing enthusiasts dedicated to preserving Arizona’s natural resources. Through education and collaboration with Arizona Fish and Game, we promote sustainable fishing practices and conservation efforts. We strive to provide inclusive opportunities for anglers of all ages to connect, learn, and enjoy the thrill of crappie fishing while fostering a sense of camaraderie and stewardship within our community.
Our vision at the Arizona Crappie Association is to be the leading organization in Arizona that champions crappie fishing as a cherished recreational activity. We aim to create a supportive and inclusive community where anglers of all ages can gather, learn, and share their passion for crappie fishing. By fostering a culture of conservation and stewardship, we strive to ensure the preservation of our natural resources for future generations to enjoy.
I have been active member of the club since joining in 2011. I grew up in Nebraska fishing primarily for walleye with my family in small lakes in both Nebraska and South Dakota and moved out to Arizona in 1998. I got the fever for crappie fishing initially fishing the flotilla near Schoolhouse ramp at Roosevelt Lake with a 1983 Lund I bought off craigslist. My goals as President in the this season is to expand the visibility, benefits, and overall membership of the club to more Arizona fishermen.
The role of Vice President is vacant currently for this season. If you would like to join these fine officers who help run the Arizona Crappie Association, please reach out to Matt at matt.rokusek@gmail.com.
My name is Thomas Rufrano and I am originally from NY where I began my fishing passion in the salt chasing everything from Fluke and Flounder to Tuna and Swordfish. I moved to AZ in 1995 where I quickly adapted to our freshwater species. I’m most happy with a fly rod in my hand, and while I love our Crappie my passion is just as intense for all species. I’m a true believer that “The tug is the drug” and nothing makes me happier then catching a fish, any fish, the way I want to catch it.
Hey y'all, I started fishing with the AZCA in 2008 and joined as a member at SCF in 2010. Former VP of the club back in 2015. I am a lifelong AZ native born and raised fishing all over the state from Powell to Patagonia and I love me some crappie fishing although I do spend a fair bit of time targeting other species. I have pulled crappie out of 13 lakes in AZ so far and hope to expand that list this year.
Hello everyone, I originally moved to Arizona in 1989 with the Air Force and never left. I grew up in Ohio mainly fishing rivers and ponds. In the last 20 years I’ve enjoyed the Crappie chase here in Arizona. I’ve been on our webpage since 2013 but didn’t become a full fledged member until 2022 after retiring. I look forward to helping our league by continuing our two tournaments a year and hope to keep it fun.
